Trevor Van Dyke successfully defended his thesis titled, “UAV imagery and 3D modeling for geological research applications.” Trevor has many years of experience flying drones around the country, capturing and modeling various landscapes and formations. He coupled this experience with new ways of generating models that can be annotated and explored from the comfort of your own home, providing faculty and students with new, exciting ways of researching and understanding geology. He has also provided valuable insight into the drone field and worked with other departments on campus to get drones more involved with research, even giving several guest lectures for various courses during his time at Iowa State. Trevor also has a YouTube channel for anyone interested in his work, documenting many of his missions: https://www.youtube.com/@trevorvandyke7420. Thanks for everything! We look forward to hearing about all that you accomplish and your many more drone missions to come!
